O grave, where is thy victory?' — the received text behind the KJV reads the second word as Hades, not death, harmonizing Paul toward the Greek of Hosea; the KJV then softens Hades to 'grave', the WEB keeps 'Hades', Diodati raises it to 'inferno' (hell)
Nei manoscritti più antichi Paolo deride un solo nemico, «la morte», due volte. I testi bizantino e ricevuto mutano la seconda in «Ade» — gli inferi — avvicinando la frase ai Settanta di Osea che cita. Poi i traduttori si dividono anche su quell'Ade: la KJV lo abbassa a «tomba», la Riveduta e la WEB mantengono «Ade», la Diodati lo alza a «inferno». Un solo versetto racchiude una variante manoscritta e l'intero bivio tomba-inferno.
