What the source reads — the sojourn was 'in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan', 430 (Greek: 435) years — the Septuagint and the Samaritan Pentateuch
What this version reads — 'in Egypt', 430 years — the Masoretic keeps the total but places it all in Egypt
How long was Israel in Egypt? The Masoretic says 430 years in Egypt. The Septuagint and the Samaritan Pentateuch read '430 years in Egypt AND Canaan' — counting from Abraham, so only about half is spent in Egypt. Paul's 430 years 'from the promise' (Galatians 3:17) follows that reckoning. The same number on the surface, a chronology reshaped underneath.
